Interesting things in Berlin

Have you gone to Berlin? If you go there I recommend you should do a scavenger hunt. Don't know what to look for?  I think my scavenger hunt things that I found (that my dad made for me before we went) might tell you just what to look for. I found:

  • a piece of the Berlin wall
  • the elevator (with fish and water around it)
  • Brandenburg Gate
  • a horse
  • 5 things people used to get to the other side of the Berin
  • a lion statue
  • a fish fountain
  • something to do with Einstein
  • the first traffic light in Europe
  • 5 cool statues
  • a different trafic light signal for pedestrians (it's called an Ampelmann)
  • a spiral ramp in a glass dome
  • graffiti on the Berlin wall
  • rows of grey, rectangle stones
  • a beckoning cat (not a picture)
  • 5 bear statues (I found about 50 (they are easy to find))

Some things you might want to learn about are:

  • the cold war
  • world war II
  • why the wall went up
  • how the wall came down
  • where the wall was and which side was which
And here are some things that you might want to see:
  • Checkpoint Charlie
  • East side gallery
  • performers in front of Brandenburg Gate

Book Report on The BFG

Sophie couldn't get to sleep. She looked outside and saw a tall giant. The giant was hiding in the shadows. He heard Sophie's heart beat and took her to Giant-land and talked to her about how the other giants eat human-beans.

Giants talk funny and he means human-beings.  The giant said what he means and what he says are completely different things. He also told her that he does not eat human beans. The giant's name was the BFG (big friendly giant)!

One day when the other giants were going to England, Sophie and the BFG mixed up different dreams to make one because the giant collects dreams. They made a dream about the other giants eating human beans and every thing happening in real life and it ended with Sophie sitting on the window sill. They gave it to the Queen of England. When she woke up Sophie was sitting on the window sill in real life so she thought the whole dream was real.

They captured the other giants and put them in a big hole. The BFG learned how to speak and spell correctly, and he wrote a book. That book happens to be called The BFG. The book I just told you about.

This book is interesting because the way the BFG talks is funny and you want to hear more.

I think the message is that you should not think you are better than other people just because they are different. Thank you for listening.

Tundras

Sun watcher flower

Hello!  You will be learning about sun watchers.  Other ways to cal it is yellow poppies or Arctic poppies.  They usually are yellow and shaped like satalight dishes.  They are about one gram and are yellow.  It adapts by turning so the heat from the sun warms it's middle.  It takes a summer to grow, but they only live for a summer!  Yellow poppies adapt to the tundras by staying near to the ground so there is less wind and more heat.  It sort of eats the sun but animals can't eat it because it's a little bit poisonous, which also helps it survive in the tundra.  Now you know all about sun watchers!

Tundra climate

What is a tundra?  A trundra is a treeless, mostly flat place.  Some tundras have mountains and are quite rocky.  Tundras are found in northern North America and northern Europe.  In winter, the temperature is -37 degrees farrenheit (-37 degrees celsius) or lower.  In summer the tempature is 50 degrees farrenheit (3 degrees celsius).  Rainfall can be 6-10 inches a year, including melted snow.  That's why the climate is so dry.  The sun in summer shines almost all day.

Snowy Owl Animal

Hello!  I will be telling you about the snowy own in the tundra.  The snowy owl is a bird that is a carnivore and eats small mammals such as lemmings.  They lay three-eleven eggs that wolfs try to eat.  Snowy owls adapt tot the tundra by migrating to northern Europe, northern United States, and northern islands.  They also adapt by using their snowy white feathers to blend in the snow.  The snowy owl is not even close to being endangered.  The snowy owl has kenn eyesight and great hearing to hear and hunt other animals.  Snowy owls travel day and night to hunt, maybe while the pray is fast asleep!

Threats

Hello!  you will be learning about the threats of a tundra.  The food chain goes in a circle.  When the animals at the top of the chain die, decomposers turn them into soil so the plants can grow and start the chain again.  A threat of the tundra is carbon dioxide.  Carbon dioxide is NOT letting head out fo the earth.  Scientists are seeing what they can do to help the tundra.  They are banning commercial fishing and exploration.  Now you know the threats of the tundra.

This is A food chain of the tundra.  The vole eats the seeds, then the Arctic Fox eats the vole, then the wolf eats the Arctic Fox then the decomposers made the wolf into soil.

Chapter 2: The Bully

George was still happy the next day, but Sarah was not.  "We have to break the bad news to George!", she complained to the others.  A big boy named Arnold was mean.  He bullied everyone in the class but Nico.  Why?  No idea!

"I'll tell him", Kallea said bravely.

"Go then!", said Sarah.

"Bye.  See you later", said Kallea.  And off she went to find George.  When she found him she said "George, we know you really like the school, but...".

"But what?" George asked.

"But there is a bully in our class" said Kallea.

"What?  Who?" asked George.

"Arnold" answered Kallea.

Lisbon, Portugal

Hi, do you know I went to Lisbon, Portugal? Es war schön(It was pretty)! There was a bridge that looked like the Golden Gate bridge! There was a fort that looks like what I imagine of a castle! There was also a castle looking thing by the water! On the other side of "The Golden Gate Bridge" was a statue of Jesus. They made it because they were not in the World War 2. I liked Lisbon because there were lots and lots of cannons and I am curious about how far the cannonball can go. Here is a slide show of what I saw on a tram!

I also learned how to SKI!It's really, really fun ! And here is a. . .VIDEO!

Fictional story: The New Kid

I'm practicing my story writing skills and here is a short story I wrote this afternoon called "The New Kid". --Isabelle

Once upon a time, a boy named George Jones and a girl named Sarah Smith met at school. George was new, so Sarah was trying to welcome him. She asked, “Do you want to play with me?”

George said, “Okay, what do you want to play?”

“I usually play family with those kids in our class. Here I’ll introduce you to them” said Sarah. Then they went to the kids in their class, Evan, Shiei, Kylie, Kallea, and Nico.

“Hi, my name is George” said George. The kids in the class introduced themselves one at a time. DING DOng dong went the bell. Recess was over.

“Now you will met Ms. Pettit!” yelled Nico. He was just so excited because it was rare to get a new kid in class.

“So what is this school called?” asked George.

“It’s called Audubon.” replied Kallea. By the end of the day George was happy. After all, he had six new friends.

“Bye Sarah, Evan, Shiei, Kylie, Kallea, and Nico. I’ve had a good day.” said George happily.

“Bye, we are glad you fit in!” said Sarah.

Now for some thoughts on the differences between the countries.

I found that I like the food in Germany better than the food in Spain and France.  I really like the meat in the gravy here in Germany.  I also like their sausages.  I don't really like the tapas in spain.  It was too spicy.  French food was also too spicy but I loved their pastries.

I like Paris because of all the tourist sites, like Eiffel Tower, Arc of Triumph, Notre Dame, Versailles, Musee D'Orsey, the Louvre, and the Musee Orangerie.  Something to make the Louvre and the Musee D'Orsey more interesting is that the Louvre has the Mona Lisa and the Musee D'Orsey has the Starry Night.

In all three countries there are friendly people and non-friendly people.

Now lets move onto Spain.  I like the tourist street, La Rambla, and at the end of it it has a statue of Columbus pointing out to the sea and it seems like he is saying "Land Ho!".  We saw Cirque du Solei and it was really fun.  We also saw a flamenco show and I got some castanets for a souvenir.

And in Germany most people are friendly and when you go around the corner there is usually a surprise.
